GAUTENG – Authorities executed an unlicensed firearm arrest in Eldorado Park following a high-speed chase on the evening of 31 August 2026, resulting in the apprehension of a 34-year-old male suspect. The successful interception was the result of a coordinated response between Eldorado Park Crime Prevention members and Gauteng Traffic Wardens, who recovered an illegal weapon and ammunition from the scene.
According to statements from Eldorado Park Crime Prevention officials and Gauteng Traffic Wardens, the incident unfolded at approximately 22:00 while officers were conducting routine crime prevention patrols on Heatherlands Street in Eldorado Park Extension 4. The officers heard a series of gunshots and subsequently spotted a blue Toyota Cross SUV rapidly departing the vicinity.
Law enforcement personnel immediately initiated a pursuit, activating their blue emergency lights and sirens. The driver ignored commands to halt, triggering a high-speed chase that lasted roughly five minutes. The pursuit was safely terminated on Pennsylvania Street in Eldorado Park Extension 7, where authorities managed to intercept and stop the fleeing vehicle.
Upon detaining the driver, a search revealed a 9mm Canik pistol in his possession. Investigators also recovered two magazines associated with the weapon: one was completely empty, while the other contained a single live round. When questioned, the 34-year-old man failed to provide any legal documentation or a valid license to possess the firearm.
The suspect was promptly taken into custody, and the unregistered firearm was confiscated to undergo further forensic investigation. Authorities have formally opened a docket for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The accused is slated to stand before the Protea Magistrate’s Court on 02 September 2026 to face the charges.
