NORTH WEST – An intelligence-driven Marikana firearm arrest has resulted in the detention of a 41-year-old man for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, delivering another significant blow to the proliferation of illegal weapons in the region.
On Thursday, 30 July 2026, members of the Marikana Crime Prevention Unit, supported by Crime Intelligence and the Rustenburg Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), acted on verified operational information. The joint team proceeded to a residential property in Lapologang, Marikana, to execute a targeted search.
During the operation, authorities discovered and seized one unlicensed firearm, associated ammunition, and a replica firearm. The suspect, who is believed to be a national of Lesotho, was taken into custody at the scene without incident.
He is scheduled to appear before the Marikana Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, to face formal charges related to the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
