Members of the Limpopo Flying Squad under the Capricorn District arrested two suspects, aged 26 and 33, for possession of illicit cigarettes following an intelligence-driven operation carried out between the evening of Thursday, 21 May 2026, and the morning of Friday, 22 May 2026.
Police acted on information regarding a white MAN refrigerated truck allegedly transporting illicit cigarettes along the N1 Polokwane bypass. The vehicle was intercepted at the R101 Shell Ultra City filling station.
After the truck was taken to a police station for a search, authorities found 102 boxes of Remington Gold cigarettes with an estimated street value of approximately R600,000. The truck allegedly used in the commission of the offence was also seized.
The two male suspects were arrested immediately.
Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the Flying Squad members for their alertness and readiness to fight crime. “Any criminal syndicate targeting our province should know that Limpopo is a no-go area for any form of criminality. They should brace themselves for serious resistance and fightback from our hardworking and vigilant members,” Hadebe said.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 May 2026.
