Ex-Boyfriend Sentenced to 25 Years for Murder

Kgopiso Joseph Shuping, 35, has been sentenced to 25 years of direct imprisonment for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Pulane Millicent Uddin, 37, by the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein.

On 11 August 2025 at approximately 23:18, Uddin was walking home with a friend and her daughter in Zone 5, Selosesha, near Thaba Nchu. The group encountered Shuping, who stopped the victim. They spoke briefly, after which Uddin’s friend and her daughter continued walking slowly until they heard Uddin scream.

Looking back, they saw Shuping on top of the victim. The pair called for help, and Shuping fled. Uddin had been stabbed multiple times. Emergency Medical Services were summoned, and she was declared dead at the scene.

A white hat belonging to Shuping was found near the victim’s body. Detective Sergeant Baile Deeuw was assigned to investigate the murder case.

Shuping handed himself over to police at Selosesha Police Station the day after the killing.

On 20 May 2026, the Free State High Court found Shuping guilty and sentenced him to 25 years direct imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
