Man Sentenced for Motorcycle Theft and Housebreaking

A 20-year-old man, Bronwyn Mias, has been found guilty of stealing a motor vehicle in January 2024 and received a suspended sentence, but was later convicted and sentenced to an effective two years’ imprisonment for a separate motorcycle theft and housebreaking committed in December 2025.

In the earlier matter, Mias was convicted of theft of a motor vehicle and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment, suspended for three years on condition that he is not convicted of theft of a motor vehicle during that period.

On 23 December 2025, shortly before Christmas, the complainant — a resident of a farm in the Hopetown area — locked his door and left to visit a friend.

The complainant returned on 24 December 2025 and discovered that his Honda motorcycle, valued at R15,000, was missing from the yard. He also noticed that the front door lock had been broken and the motorcycle keys were gone.

On Christmas Day, 25 December 2025, the accused was seen driving the motorcycle on an adjacent farm. He was arrested, and the motorcycle was recovered.

Mias was recently found guilty in the Hopetown Regional Court. He was sentenced on count 1 (theft of a motorcycle) to two years’ imprisonment, and on count 2 (housebreaking and theft) to two years’ imprisonment.

The court also declared Mias unfit to possess a firearm.
