Firearms Seized, Two Arrested in Nyanga Following Intelligence-Led Operation

On Friday, 8 May 2026, at approximately 01:13, members attached to Operation Lockdown 3 acted on intelligence regarding suspects in possession of firearms at a shack on Klipfontein Road, Nyanga.

Upon arrival, officers searched the premises and recovered five firearms: three without serial numbers (an R5 rifle, a 9mm pistol, and a .38 revolver), as well as one unlicensed Norinco firearm manufactured in China. An assortment of ammunition was also found. All items were seized and booked in as exhibits for further processing.

Two male suspects, aged 28 and 37, were arrested and detained at Nyanga SAPS. They face charges of possession of prohibited firearms, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and illegal possession of ammunition.

The suspects are scheduled to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 11 May 2026.
