A coordinated police operation in Nquthu on Monday led to the arrest of four suspects allegedly planning an armed robbery, effectively preventing a potential crime.
The operation was initiated after members of the Mzinyathi District Crime Intelligence unit received and verified information about a group conspiring to target a local supermarket. After gathering critical details of the planned heist, the intelligence team enlisted the support of the Glencoe K9 Unit to intercept the suspects.
At approximately 15:00 on Monday, 24 November 2025, police officers identified and apprehended four men matching the suspects’ description near the targeted supermarket.
Upon searching the individuals, aged between 39 and 49, authorities discovered all four were armed. One suspect, aged 49, was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm. The other three suspects were carrying firearms licensed to them.

All four were subsequently arrested and charged. They face charges of conspiracy to commit an armed robbery, with the 49-year-old suspect facing the additional charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The 49-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear today, Tuesday, 25 November 2025, at the Nquthu Magistrate’s Court for the firearm possession charge. The other three suspects are set to appear at the same court on Wednesday, 26 November 2025, to face the charge of conspiracy to commit an armed robbery.
