Mpumalanga Police Welcome Life Sentences for Serial Rapist

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has officially welcomed the severe sentences handed down to a convicted serial rapist.

This follows the sentencing of Bongani Thembinkosi Nkosi (34) by the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court. Nkosi received life imprisonment for four counts of rape, in addition to a further 10 years in prison.

Major General Mkhwanazi commended the multi-disciplinary effort that led to the successful conviction. He specifically praised the collaborative work displayed by the Investigation team, the Prosecution team, and the Judiciary, stating that their coordinated efforts were directly responsible for securing the “well-deserved sentence.”

The life sentences are seen as a significant victory for the justice system and a strong message against gender-based violence in the province.
