KHAYELITSHA – An armed robbery suspect was arrested in Khayelitsha on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, following a targeted police operation that resulted in the seizure of two imitation firearms and suspected stolen property.
The 24-year-old male suspect was apprehended at his residence in the Eyadini informal settlement. According to representatives from the Makhaza Anti-Hijacking Team and Harare Crime Intelligence, the arrest was the culmination of a coordinated joint operation.
Law enforcement officials acted on specific intelligence linking the individual to a recent series of armed street robberies and carjackings in the Makhaza and Harare areas. Upon arriving at the suspect’s home, officers conducted a lawful search of the premises.
During the search, police recovered two imitation firearms alongside property suspected to be stolen from previous incidents.
Authorities have confirmed that once formally charged, the suspect is scheduled to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court to face the allegations. The joint police units continue to monitor the area and have urged the public to report any suspicious activity related to vehicle hijackings or armed street crime.
