WESTERN CAPE – A major R11 million drug bust on the N2 in Riviersonderend has resulted in the arrest of a foreign national and the seizure of a substantial quantity of illicit narcotics. Western Cape law enforcement officials intercepted a vehicle during a targeted stop-and-search operation, uncovering a hidden cache of Mandrax, crystal meth, and cocaine.
According to provincial police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala, the operation occurred at approximately 22:35 on Tuesday, 25 August 2026. Officers conducting routine vehicle inspections along the N2 highway pulled over a black Nissan Tiida for a search.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, authorities discovered a significant haul of drugs concealed in the boot. The seized contraband included 87 packets of Mandrax tablets, 16 packets of uncut crystal meth, and two blocks of cocaine. Law enforcement estimates the total street value of the intercepted narcotics at R11 million.
Following the discovery, a 37-year-old foreign national male was taken into custody and arrested on charges of possession of drugs.
Constable Gwala confirmed that once formally charged, the suspect is scheduled to make his first court appearance before the Caledon Magistrate’s Court. This interception underscores ongoing law enforcement efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks operating along major national highways.
