KHAYELITSHA – A major two million rand drug bust in Khayelitsha has led to the arrest of a 37-year-old male suspect following a targeted, intelligence-led operation in Thaleni Square. The successful interdiction was executed by the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team in collaboration with the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Policing Team, significantly disrupting local narcotics distribution networks.
According to police spokespersons Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi and Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, operatives received actionable intelligence on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, at approximately 05:30 regarding suspected drug-related activities at the premises. Acting swiftly on this information, law enforcement members conducted a tactical search of the location without delay.
The investigation yielded a substantial consignment of illicit substances. Officers discovered nine sealed packets of Mandrax tablets, with each packet containing 1,000 tablets, alongside an additional 300 loose Mandrax tablets. Further systematic searches of the premises uncovered 12 sachets of crystal meth and 4.15 grams of rock cocaine.
The 37-year-old male suspect was apprehended at the scene. He has been flagged for charges related to the possession of and dealing in drugs. He is scheduled to make his first formal court appearance at the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court once the charging process is finalized.
This operation underscores the ongoing commitment of provincial law enforcement units to dismantle drug syndicates, act on credible intelligence, and remove dangerous illicit substances from communities.
