WESTERN CAPE — Provincial Serious Violent Crime Detectives in the Western Cape have arrested two relatives in connection with the murder of a five-year-old girl in Samora Machel. The breakthrough follows the tragic discovery of the child’s body on Sunday, 16 August 2026, in the Sweet Home area.
According to a Western Cape police spokesperson, the victim’s body was discovered with a fatal stab wound to the neck inside a dustbin located on Duinefontein Road.
Swift investigative work by the Provincial Serious Violent Crime Detectives led authorities directly to a relative of the victim. As a result, a 35-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were taken into custody and formally arrested on charges of murder.
The police spokesperson confirmed that investigations into the incident remain ongoing as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crime. The two accused are scheduled to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, to face the murder charges.
