Nine Learners Face Court in Mankweng Over Alleged Assault on School Security Officer

LIMPOPO – Nine learners, ranging in age from 15 to 19, stood before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 07 August 2026, to answer charges of common assault and crimen injuria linked to a violent confrontation with a school security guard earlier this week.

Alleged Assault at Mountain View, Boyne High School

The charges arise from an incident on Monday, 03 August 2026, at a high school situated in Mountain View, Boyne. According to the details placed before the court, a 45-year-old security officer was allegedly set upon by a group of learners after the group was refused entry onto the school grounds. The confrontation escalated into what prosecutors have described as both physical assault and an infringement on the officer’s dignity, giving rise to the dual charges of common assault and crimen injuria.

Adult Accused Released on Free Bail

Of the nine accused, three are legally classified as adults. Paul Mathipa, 19, Solomon Mathipa, 18, and Goitsemang Kokela, 19, were each released on free bail. The trio is expected to return to the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on 21 August 2026, by which date they are required to have secured legal representation.

Minors Handed Over to Parental Custody

The remaining six accused, all between the ages of 15 and 17, were dealt with in accordance with provisions governing child offenders. The court ordered their release into the custody of their respective parents. These six minors are scheduled to reappear before the court on 12 August 2026 for further proceedings.

Police Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the matter remain active. Police have indicated that additional charges could be brought against some or all of the accused as the inquiry progresses and further evidence is gathered.

The case has drawn attention in the local community, raising questions about school access protocols and the safety of security personnel stationed at educational institutions in the Boyne area.

The matter remains before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court, with the next court dates set for 12 August 2026 (minors) and 21 August 2026 (adult accused).
