MPUMALANGA — Members of the Middelburg Flying Squad have arrested a 36-year-old suspect for drug possession following a high-speed chase on the N12 highway. The operation, which concluded late Thursday evening, resulted in the seizure of 32 suspected drug packets and highlighted ongoing law enforcement efforts to curb narcotics trafficking in the region.
According to members of the Middelburg Flying Squad, the incident occurred on Thursday, 23 July 2026, at approximately 21:30. While conducting routine patrols, officers observed a silver Audi A4 bearing Gauteng registration numbers traveling at excessive speeds on the N12, shortly after the Watermeyer off-ramp.
Law enforcement personnel initiated a pursuit, successfully tracking and intercepting the vehicle. Upon stopping the car, which contained a single occupant, officers conducted a search of the premises. The investigation revealed 32 packets of substances suspected to be illegal drugs concealed in the vehicle’s boot.
The 36-year-old driver was immediately taken into custody at the scene. Police officials confirmed that the suspect is expected to appear before the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court in the near future to face formal charges of dealing in drugs.
The Middelburg Flying Squad continues to urge motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and report any suspicious activities to assist authorities in maintaining road safety and combating illicit substance distribution.
