EASTERN CAPE — A 60-year-old woman has been arrested in Qonce for the possession of suspected stolen livestock following an intelligence-driven operation conducted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Qonce Stock Theft and Zele police units.
The operation was executed on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, in the Luxolweni Administrative Area. It was prompted by actionable intelligence regarding goats that were allegedly stolen within the Zele policing precinct during May 2026.
During the targeted search, law enforcement officers successfully recovered seven goats believed to be directly linked to the reported stock theft. The 60-year-old suspect was taken into custody and formally charged with possession of suspected stolen livestock and receiving stolen stock or produce.
The recovered animals will remain in police custody as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities are actively working to establish lawful ownership and identify any additional suspects connected to the theft network.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Qonce Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 23 July 2026.
Major General Christopher Wright, District Commissioner of Buffalo City, publicly commended the local community for their vigilant cooperation with law enforcement. He emphasized the critical role of public partnership in reporting criminal activities and successfully combating stock theft in the region.
