Three suspects have been arrested in connection with stock theft after being found in possession of ten suspected stolen cattle in the early hours of Thursday, 21 May 2026.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in North West, Provincial Intelligence members received information about a white Isuzu bakkie towing a trailer in the Derby/Ventersdorp area. Further investigations revealed the vehicle was traveling toward Parys in the Free State with a load of cattle.
All relevant role players, including SAPS members in Parys and community members, were activated to assist in the operation.
Authorities intercepted the vehicle, and the suspects were found with ten cattle. They could not provide proof of ownership or a satisfactory explanation for possessing the animals, leading to their immediate arrest on suspicion of stock theft.
Further investigations linked the suspects to a stock theft case previously reported in Potchefstroom. The cattle have since been returned to their rightful owner.
The three suspects, aged between 20 and 40, are scheduled to appear before the Parys Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 May 2026, on charges of possession of suspected stolen property. Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
