Police have launched a high-priority manhunt for two suspects following a fatal shooting and robbery in Meqheleng Township on the evening of May 7, 2026.
At approximately 20:30, the Ficksburg Community Service Centre (CSC) received a report of a shooting at a tuckshop in Katlehong, Meqheleng. Officers responding to the scene found a 39-year-old foreign national male with gunshot wounds to the back of the head and his left arm.
Emergency medical personnel attended to the victim but tragically certified him dead at the scene.
According to preliminary reports, the victim had just arrived from his business premises in Zone 8 to collect his brother when two males approached him. A brief quarrel ensued, during which a gunshot was heard. The victim collapsed, and the two suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle – a white Toyota Camry.
A tactical manhunt was activated immediately. Within minutes, members of the Ficksburg Crime Prevention Unit located the hijacked vehicle abandoned near the Melspruit Dam in Ficksburg, with its headlights still switched on.
The Ficksburg Police have opened cases of murder and robbery with a firearm. The vehicle has been recovered, but the suspects remain at large. Detectives are pursuing all available leads as the manhunt continues.
