Three Minors Arrested After Burglary at Free State Primary School

Police have arrested three suspects, aged between 14 and 16, following a burglary at a local primary school in Reddersburg early Friday morning, 8 May 2026.

A school caretaker discovered that the school’s library, where electronic learning equipment is stored, had been broken into. An inspection confirmed that several Samsung tablets used by learners had been stolen. The school principal was notified, and the Reddersburg police were summoned to the scene.

Upon arrival, SAPS members conducted a preliminary investigation and determined that the suspects gained entry by smashing a window.

A tracing and tracking operation was launched immediately. The intelligence-led pursuit led to the arrest of the three minors and the recovery of 11 Samsung tablets, valued at approximately R27,500.

In accordance with the Children’s Act 38 of 2005, the suspects were released into the custody of their parents or guardians. They are scheduled to make their first preliminary appearance before the Reddersburg Magistrate’s Court on 19 May 2026.

Seven tablets remain outstanding. Reddersburg detectives and tracing units are following active leads to locate the remaining property and determine whether any other individuals were involved.
