A 26-year-old male suspect is expected to appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 April 2026, in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old female victim.
The incident occurred at a residence in Mavalani New Stand, Giyani, on Saturday, 18 April 2026.
According to a police report, officers responded to a complaint of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm at the location. Upon arrival, family members directed police to the victim’s body, which was found lying in a pool of blood with stab wounds.
A preliminary investigation indicates the victim was stabbed by her uncle with a sharp object in a domestic violence-related matter. Following the stabbing, the suspect attempted to flee. Siblings of the suspect called for help, and community members apprehended the individual before handing him over to police custody.
Paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
The specific motive for the incident remains unknown, though police state a domestic violence-related motive cannot be ruled out. Police investigations are continuing.
