SAPS Arrests 43-Year-Old Man for Fatal Shooting of Brother

A 43-year-old man is in custody after allegedly shooting and killing his brother during a dispute over money at Ga-Masemola Thebampshe section in the Sekhukhune District.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 18 April 2026. Police officers at the Masemola SAPS Client Service Centre (CSC) were conducting routine duties when the suspect entered the station, identified himself, and informed them that he had fatally shot his brother at their residence following a heated argument.

The suspect subsequently handed over a 9mm Norinco firearm, which was found to have its serial number filed off, along with five live rounds of ammunition.

A preliminary police investigation indicates that the fatal argument stemmed from a disagreement over money, resulting in the suspect shooting the victim in the upper body. Emergency Medical Services personnel were summoned to the scene and pronounced the victim dead upon arrival.

The 43-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene on a charge of murder.

He is scheduled to appear before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 21 April 2026. He faces formal charges of murder as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Police investigations are continuing.
