A stolen Toyota Starlet was recovered and one suspect arrested early Sunday morning, 19 April 2026, following a rapid response by members of the Flying Squad.
The incident began at approximately 01:00 at a petrol station near the V&A Waterfront. According to police reports, the driver of the Toyota Starlet placed the vehicle keys on the shop counter. A suspect grabbed the keys, entered the vehicle, and drove away from the scene.
Flying Squad members were alerted to the theft and initiated a pursuit. The chase extended to Milnerton, where the suspect struck a curb at the intersection of Koeberg Road and Bosmansdam Road, bringing the vehicle to a stop.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located a 9mm pistol and 57 rounds of ammunition on the driver’s seat.
The suspect was taken into custody on charges of theft of a motor vehicle, reckless and negligent driving, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The suspect is scheduled to appear at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 April 2026.
