Man Arrested for Alleged Statutory Rape of Minor

A 20-year-old man is in police custody following his arrest for the alleged statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl in the Mushongo area of Musina.

The case was uncovered on the afternoon of Thursday, 27 November 2025, when the victim’s parents realized she had not returned home from school. Concerned, they contacted the school, which confirmed that the girl had not attended classes that day.

The minor returned to her family home at approximately 16:00 that same day. The following day, her parents discovered a handwritten note on her bed in which she apologized for “disappointing her parents by engaging in affairs.”

Upon being questioned, the 14-year-old girl disclosed to her parents that on Thursday, 27 November 2025, she had gone to her boyfriend’s residence, where she engaged in sexual intercourse with him.

The parents subsequently reported the incident to the South African Police Service (SAPS), leading to the registration of a formal case of statutory rape. The specialized Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS) was notified and took over the investigation, culminating in the arrest of the alleged suspect.

The 20-year-old male suspect is scheduled to make his first appearance before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 01 December 2025, to face a charge of statutory rape. Police investigations are continuing.
