In a series of coordinated actions on Tuesday, Crime Prevention Units from two police precincts demonstrated a firm stance against illegal firearms and gang-related activity, resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of prohibited weapons.
The first operation was conducted by the Elsies River Crime Prevention Unit. Acting on specific intelligence regarding a gang-affiliated individual, members proceeded to a residence in Staal Court, Clarke Estate, Elsies River. At approximately 13:30, they located and apprehended a 26-year-old male. The suspect was found to be in possession of a prohibited firearm and was subsequently charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
In a separate but concurrent incident, members of the Kensington SAPS Crime Prevention Unit were conducting a monitoring operation at a funeral for a known gang member on Glider Crescent in Factreton. Their presence became critical when they heard gunshots emanating from the adjacent street.
Responding immediately, officers rushed to the scene and identified suspects fleeing the area. The individuals quickly entered a white Renault motor vehicle and sped away. This prompted a high-speed pursuit by the Kensington units.
The chase concluded when the driver of the Renault lost control and collided with a stationary vehicle. A subsequent search of the suspect’s car led to the discovery of one black Glock firearm, noted as having its serial number removed, and 30 rounds of ammunition.
The operation resulted in the arrest of four male suspects and one female suspect. All five individuals are scheduled to make their initial appearance before the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 27 November 2025.
These incidents underscore the continued commitment of local law enforcement to ensure public safety and combat the proliferation of illegal weapons and gang violence in the communities they serve.
