Anti-Gang Unit Nets R373k in Crystal Meth, Cash, and Surveillance Gear in Bloemfontein Raid

In a decisive blow to drug trafficking in the Mangaung Metro, members of the South African Police Service’s Anti-Gang Unit have arrested a 44-year-old foreign national following a swift intelligence-driven operation.

The arrest occurred on Thursday during proactive #SaferFestiveSeason patrols. Acting on a tip-off about an African male allegedly selling narcotics from a shop on Douglas Street in the Bloemfontein Central Business District, the team moved quickly to the location.

“The members reacted swiftly and pounced on the alleged drug dealer,” a police statement read.

A subsequent search of the Adimora store yielded a significant haul. Police discovered a black carry bag containing five medium-sized zip-lock plastics filled with Crystal Meth. Also found with the drugs were a digital scale, believed to be used for weighing narcotics, and a quantity of cash suspected to be the proceeds of drug sales.

The total weight of the seized Crystal Meth was confirmed to be 373 grams, with the cash amounting to R24,275.

Further investigation revealed a sophisticated surveillance system set up by the suspect. Police discovered he used Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to monitor the approach to his store, allowing him to observe police movements. The recording equipment was also seized as part of the evidence.

The suspect was immediately placed under arrest and a formal case docket for Dealing in Drugs was registered at the Parkweg Police Station.

The 44-year-old is expected to make his first appearance before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon. The operation underscores the police’s commitment to leaving “no stone unturned” in their mission to eradicate drug-related crime in the metro.
