Two Arrested for Murder in Westenburg After Apprehending Alleged Thief

Westenburg police have arrested two men, aged 22 and 25, on a charge of murder following a fatal incident that occurred on Sunday afternoon, 23 November 2025.

According to preliminary police reports, the chain of events began earlier on the same day when the 22-year-old suspect opened a case of theft at a Ladanna tavern on Witklip Street. He reported that his cellphone and an amount of cash had been stolen.

It is alleged that the complainant later informed police that he proceeded to the Ga-Kipi area along the Dendron road in search of the individual he believed responsible for the theft. He was accompanied by the 25-year-old suspect.

Police investigations indicate that the two suspects located the victim, chased after him, and managed to apprehend him. The suspects then transported the injured male to the Westenburg police station.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel were immediately summoned to the station. Upon their arrival, the medical personnel examined the victim and certified him dead. The identity of the deceased male remains unknown at this stage.

The two suspects were immediately placed under arrest. They are scheduled to make their first appearance before the Polokwane District Court on Tuesday, 25 November 2025.

Police spokesperson confirmed that witness statements have been obtained and will assist in the investigation of what is described as a “complex case.”
