A 45-year-old father has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of his six-year-old daughter in a case that has highlighted the collaborative efforts of local law enforcement and the justice system.
The conviction and sentencing were secured by the Ficksburg Family, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit in conjunction with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). The man was convicted for the rape, which occurred in September of last year.
According to evidence presented in court, the incident took place on 9 September 2024. The young victim was at home eating after school when her mother left for work, leaving her in the care of her father, who was lying on a bed. After the mother’s departure, the father approached the child as she sat on a sofa. He closed her mouth with his hand and raped her, subsequently ordering her not to disclose the assault.
The crime came to light days later when the girl, after repeatedly complaining to her mother of painful thighs, confided in another family member. During this conversation, she detailed the assault. She was immediately taken to a local doctor for a medical examination, which confirmed that she had been raped.
Following the medical report, her biological father was arrested and charged with rape.
Today, on 18 November 2025, the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court found the accused guilty and imposed a sentence of life imprisonment.
