A swift operation by the Benoni Flying Squad on Friday led to the arrest of a 50-year-old man for drug possession and an attempted bribery of police officers.
The incident unfolded at approximately 11:00 after members operationalized intelligence regarding a grey Toyota Hilux suspected of transporting dagga on the R23 freeway, near Tsakane. Acting on the information, officers successfully located and intercepted the vehicle.
Upon searching the Hilux, police discovered four large bags of dagga. The driver was immediately placed under arrest.
In a further attempt to evade justice, the suspect allegedly offered the arresting officers R6,000 in cash to secure his release. The bribery attempt was unsuccessful, and the charge of bribery was added to his docket.
The suspect is currently detained at the Tsakane police station. The confiscated dagga, with an estimated street value of R80,000, was booked in as evidence, along with the R6,000 cash.

The man is scheduled to make his initial appearance in the local Magistrate’s Court, where he will face formal charges of possession of drugs, dealing in drugs, and bribery.
