FlySafair Pilot Strike Ends After 12 Days, Agreement Reached

The 12-day strike by FlySafair pilots has officially ended following a formal agreement between the airline’s management and labor union Solidarity, the airline confirmed today.

The industrial action, which disrupted flight schedules, was resolved after negotiations led to a new four-year deal addressing pilots’ working conditions and remuneration.

Key Terms of the Agreement

Under the new agreement, pilots will receive:

  • 6% salary increase in the first year, followed by 6.5% in the second year, and just under 7% in the final two years.

  • Guaranteed at least one 60-hour weekend off every six-week cycle, with a minimum of nine weekends off per year.

  • The ability to exchange shifts among themselves for greater flexibility.

FlySafair’s Chief Marketing Officer, Kirby Gordon, expressed relief at the resolution, stating that the agreement balances pilots’ needs with the airline’s long-term sustainability.

Flight Operations to Normalize Gradually

Gordon confirmed that FlySafair will ramp up operations next week, with a reduced schedule initially before returning to full capacity by the 12th. Despite the strike, the airline maintained an on-time performance of over 94% last week.

Rebuilding Trust and Moving Forward

Addressing concerns about post-strike relations, Gordon emphasized the importance of mutual respect and healing, acknowledging the challenges faced by both sides.

FlySafair remains committed to affordable air travel, with Gordon assuring customers that cost optimization and service efficiency remain top priorities.

The resolution marks a significant step toward stability for the airline and its passengers, with operations expected to normalize in the coming days.
