Ermelo Man Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Raping 7-Year-Old Boy

The Ermelo Regional Court has sentenced 40-year-old Wonderboy Liberty Mncina to life imprisonment for the rape of a seven-year-old boy. The conviction was handed down on 19 June 2025, following a thorough investigation and prosecution.

Details of the Crime

The incident occurred on 07 July 2023 at around 04:00, when the accused, a family friend, arrived at the victim’s home and requested to spend the night. The victim’s father allowed Mncina to stay, offering him a place to sleep in the child’s room while he slept in another part of the house.

It is alleged that Mncina, who appeared intoxicated, forcibly undressed the young boy, raped him, and muffled his cries with a cushion. The victim reported the assault to his father later that morning at approximately 08:00. When confronted, Mncina denied the allegations.

Medical Examination and Arrest

The child was taken to a nearby clinic, where medical professionals confirmed the sexual assault through a forensic examination. Mncina was traced and arrested on 17 July 2023 and subsequently charged with rape.

During court proceedings, the Investigating Officer successfully opposed bail, ensuring Mncina remained in custody. The prosecution secured a conviction based on strong circumstantial evidence and the credible testimony of the young victim.

Investigation and Sentencing

The Investigating Officer employed meticulous techniques to gather evidence, leaving no room for doubt regarding Mncina’s guilt. The court found him guilty and imposed a life sentence, in addition to declaring him unfit to possess a firearm, as per legal provisions for sexual assault convictions.

This case highlights the relentless efforts of law enforcement and the judiciary in securing justice for victims of gender-based violence and child abuse.
