Suspect to Appear in Court for Murder of Local Nurse in Masoyi

A 50-year-old suspect is set to appear before the Masoyi Periodical Court on Monday, 02 June 2025, in connection with the murder of 57-year-old Octavia Happy Sambo. The victim, a professional nurse at a local clinic, was fatally shot on the evening of 29 May 2025 at approximately 18:30 in Mgcobaneni.

According to reports, an argument erupted between the suspect and the victim, prompting Sambo to flee and seek refuge in a neighbour’s bathroom. The suspect allegedly pursued her and shot her, resulting in her death at the scene.

Community members notified the police and emergency services, who arrived to find the victim lying in a pool of blood. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) later certified her dead.

The suspect was apprehended at the residence he shared with the deceased. He has been charged with murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and possession of ammunition. The firearm suspected to have been used in the crime was seized by authorities.

The case is set to proceed in court next week as investigations continue.
