WESTERN CAPE — Law enforcement officials from the Flying Squad intercepted a long-distance bus at a Prince Albert vehicle checkpoint, resulting in the arrest of a bus driver for alleged dagga dealing. The targeted operation, which focused on a coach traveling the Mthatha to Cape Town route, successfully uncovered a significant cache of the illicit substance.
Interprovincial Drug Bust on the Mthatha to Cape Town Route
During a thorough search of the interprovincial vehicle on Thursday, October 1, 2026, officers discovered a concealed bag holding exactly 2,057 grams of dagga. Authorities have estimated the street value of the seized narcotics at approximately R20,570.
The checkpoint was part of ongoing efforts to curb the transportation and distribution of illegal drugs across provincial borders. By targeting long-distance public transport, the Flying Squad aims to disrupt the supply chains utilized by drug syndicates.
Suspect Faces Court for Dagga Dealing
Following the discovery of the drugs, police swiftly apprehended one of the operators of the vehicle. The 48-year-old male suspect was taken into custody on the spot and is now facing formal charges of dealing in dagga.
The accused remains in police custody and is scheduled to make his first appearance before the Prince Albert Magistrates’ Court to answer to the drug-related charges. Further investigations into the origin and intended destination of the seized consignment are currently underway.
