NGCOBO — Two suspects have been arrested for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition following a targeted early-morning operation conducted by the Tactical Response Team (TRT) in Masonwabe Township on September 23, 2026.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding individuals in possession of illegal weapons at a local homestead, TRT members swiftly deployed to the location. Upon arrival, officers identified themselves to two adult males and requested permission to search the premises, which was granted.
The subsequent search yielded an AK-47 rifle accompanied by six live rounds of ammunition, as well as a 9mm pistol with one magazine and two live rounds. Authorities noted that the serial numbers on both firearms had been deliberately filed off. The two suspects, aged between 25 and 29, were immediately taken into custody at the scene.
The seized weapons have been secured for further forensic investigation to determine any potential linkage to other ongoing criminal activities in the region. The suspects are scheduled to make their first appearance at the Ngcobo Magistrate’s Court on Friday, September 25, 2026.
District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph officially commended the TRT members for their swift action and sterling work, emphasizing the critical importance of such proactive operations in ensuring that local streets remain free of dangerous, illegal weapons.
