LIMPOPO – A 53-year-old woman from Seshego is facing charges of bribery after allegedly attempting to offer a police officer R4 000 in cash to secure her husband’s release at the Mankweng Community Service Centre (CSC).
The incident occurred on Saturday, 29 August 2026, at approximately 21:30. A police Constable attached to Polokwane Public Order Policing (POPS) was on duty and compiling a docket at the facility when the suspect, who resides in Zone 1 Extension, Seshego, approached him.
The suspect allegedly proposed the R4 000 payment in exchange for the freedom of her husband, who was being held in police custody on charges related to dealing in dagga. The Constable neither solicited nor accepted the funds, explicitly warning the woman that her actions were unlawful. Ignoring the warning, the suspect reportedly withdrew the cash from her pocket and forcefully placed it into the officer’s hands.
Following this direct act, the Constable immediately apprehended the woman for bribery. She is scheduled to appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 31 August 2026, to formally face the charge of bribing a police member.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, publicly commended the Constable for his integrity and professionalism. He highlighted the officer’s refusal to be compromised and his steadfast dedication to upholding the law.
Police investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
