NORTH WEST — Police in Letlhabile have arrested a 16-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of a 29-year-old man, marking a significant development in the ongoing Letlhabile murder investigation that began early Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 06:30 on Sunday, 30 August 2026, at Block G in Letlhabile. According to law enforcement officials, the victim was involved in a physical altercation with the minor suspect outside a local tavern, during which the victim was allegedly stabbed.
Following the attack, members of the local community intervened to assist the victim, transporting him to the Letlhabile Clinic. Despite these immediate efforts, he was declared deceased upon arrival. His mother has since formally identified the deceased.
Investigators immediately launched a probe, interviewing multiple patrons and witnesses who were present at the tavern. Intelligence obtained during these initial interviews enabled police to trace and apprehend the 16-year-old suspect shortly thereafter.
During the arrest, law enforcement officials noted that the suspect was wearing clothing with suspected blood stains. The garments were promptly seized by the LCRC for comprehensive forensic examination. Authorities confirmed that the alleged weapon used in the commission of the offence has not yet been recovered.
The crime scene has been thoroughly processed, and detectives continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
In accordance with legal protocols for juvenile offenders, the suspect’s parents and a probation officer have been officially notified of the arrest. Appropriate arrangements are currently in place to ensure the proper detention and assessment of the minor.
The 16-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear at the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, to face a formal charge of murder.
