GAUTENG — A significant breakthrough in the recent Pretoria North petrol station robbery has resulted in the arrest of four suspects following a rapid, multi-agency law enforcement operation. Authorities apprehended the individuals, aged between 27 and 35, during the early hours of Thursday, 13 August 2026, successfully recovering a stolen ATM, multiple getaway vehicles, and illegal firearms.
The arrests were executed during a tactical follow-up operation in Soshanguve Extension 20. Law enforcement was initially dispatched to the neighborhood after receiving multiple reports of gunfire in the area. Working in tandem with private security personnel, Soshanguve police intercepted the suspects and secured a massive haul of physical evidence.
According to investigators, the syndicate stormed the fuel station, forcibly loading both the business’s ATM and a drop safe onto the bed of a white Ford Ranger before speeding away. The violent nature of the crime was underscored by reports of heavy gunfire exchanged during the incident. Despite the volatility of the encounter, a Gauteng police spokesperson confirmed that no private security staff or law enforcement officers sustained injuries.
Among the seized items was the white Ford Ranger, which is believed to be the primary getaway vehicle used during the heist. Investigators also recovered the targeted ATM and drop safe, alongside various burglary tools, looted merchandise, and an undisclosed sum of cash. Furthermore, authorities discovered a white Suzuki tied to the incident, as well as a rifle and accompanying ammunition [[14]]. Police records indicate that the recovered firearm was initially reported stolen in Booysens in January 2024. The official incident and subsequent arrests were formally logged in provincial media statements on 13 August 2026.
The four men are now facing a stringent docket of criminal charges. A Gauteng police spokesperson stated that the suspects will be prosecuted for business robbery, attempted murder, and the possession of suspected stolen property. Additional counts include the possession of a stolen motor vehicle, as well as the illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The accused are scheduled to make their first court appearance shortly, while detectives continue to probe the wider circumstances surrounding the syndicate’s operations.
