GAUTENG — An intensive Ekangala school search operation conducted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) has resulted in the seizure of dangerous weapons, illicit cigarettes, and large quantities of alcohol, reinforcing ongoing efforts to secure educational environments across the Tshwane District.
Executed on Friday, 8 August 2026, the joint security initiative brought together Ekangala SAPS officers, the Community Policing Forum (CPF), local Ekangala Patrollers, and the Department of Community Safety. The primary objective of sweeping the School of Specialisation was to identify and remove illegal drugs, weapons, and other prohibited contraband that threaten the daily safety of learners and educators.
During the physical sweep of the school grounds, law enforcement successfully confiscated multiple dangerous weapons, various tobacco products, and several small bottles of vodka.
Acting on subsequent intelligence regarding the local distribution of the seized liquor, authorities tracked the suspected supply chain to a nearby residential property. At the home, officers spoke with an elderly woman who identified herself as the mother of the suspected seller. She maintained that she had no knowledge of her son’s alleged involvement in illicit alcohol sales and noted that he was not present during the visit.
Despite the suspect’s absence, officers discovered several boxes stashed on the premises containing the exact brand of vodka previously found on school grounds. The stockpiled liquor was immediately confiscated, booked into evidence, and secured for an ongoing investigation into the illegal distribution network.
Major-General Samuel Thine, the District Commissioner of Tshwane, publicly praised the seamless collaboration between law enforcement and community stakeholders. He noted that the police service will persist in executing intelligence-driven interventions designed to strip dangerous and prohibited items from youth-centric environments.
Looking ahead, Major-General Thine issued a strong call to action for parents, guardians, educators, and local residents to partner actively with SAPS in cultivating secure learning spaces. He reaffirmed the department’s commitment to proactive crime prevention strategies, ensuring that vulnerable community members remain protected through continued school searches and targeted neighborhood operations.
