24-Year-Old Woman to Appear in Court After Fatal Boyfriend Stabbing

FREE STATE — A 24-year-old woman is expected to appear in the local Magistrate’s Court on a serious Jacobsdal murder charge after allegedly fatally stabbing her 52-year-old boyfriend, Samikele Setofole, during an alcohol-fueled domestic dispute.

Free State Police Spokesperson Sinah Mpakane confirmed that law enforcement officers were dispatched to a shack in Saundershoogte, within the Generations Location, following reports of a severe stabbing on Saturday evening. Authorities arrived at the scene at approximately 18:35 and were met by the suspect, a Riemvasmaak native, who identified herself as the victim’s girlfriend and confessed to the act.

According to the suspect’s account, the fatal incident unfolded while the couple was inside the residence consuming alcohol and playing music. She alleged that the deadly wound was inflicted accidentally during a playful interaction while she was handling an Okapi knife. The suspect claims she unintentionally struck Setofole in the neck and, upon seeing him bleed profusely, exited the structure to seek emergency assistance.

Emergency Medical Services responded rapidly to the scene, but the 52-year-old victim was tragically declared dead from his injuries.

Following the medical assessment, a case of murder was officially docketed at the Jacobsdal SAPS, and the suspect was taken into police custody. Investigators are continuing their probe into the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal altercation.
