Truck Driver Fatally Stabbed in Kuruman: Suspect Arrested After Swift SAPS Manhunt

NORTHERN CAPE — A 29-year-old truck driver was fatally stabbed while his vehicle was still in motion in Kuruman on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, and the South African Police Service (SAPS) has since arrested a 31-year-old man believed to be the passenger who carried out the deadly attack.

The fatal stabbing of the truck driver in Kuruman unfolded while the heavy vehicle was travelling through the town. A fellow truck driver operating nearby noticed that something appeared seriously wrong with the moving truck and immediately pulled alongside to investigate.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the witness reportedly discovered the driver slumped and covered in blood, with the driver’s-side door hanging open. Acting without hesitation, the motorist climbed aboard the still-moving truck, shifted the wounded man into the passenger seat, and managed to bring the vehicle safely under control. He then transported the critically injured victim to Kuruman Hospital.

Despite the rapid intervention, the 29-year-old was declared dead on arrival. Medical assessment confirmed he had sustained multiple stab wounds.

Passenger Identified as Alleged Attacker

Information gathered at the scene pointed to the passenger who had been travelling with the deceased as the individual responsible for the fatal assault. The matter was immediately reported, and a murder case was opened at Kuruman Police Station.

SAPS operatives moved quickly, tracing the suspect to Livingstone Street in Kuruman, where he was allegedly attempting to evade capture. Officers apprehended him at the location.

The 31-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Kuruman Magistrate’s Court shortly, facing a charge of murder.
