FREE STATE – A 42-year-old stepfather has been arrested by Hertzogville police on charges of murder and attempted murder following a fatal stabbing incident in Malebogo Location.
On Saturday, 1 August 2026, at approximately 19:30, law enforcement officers were dispatched to a reported stabbing at Malebogo Location. Upon arrival at the scene, officers were directed to the rear of a shack, where they discovered a 21-year-old African male lying unresponsive in a pool of blood. The victim had sustained a severe stab wound to the left side of his neck.
According to Hertzogville police, the violence occurred amid a domestic dispute. In addition to the fatality, a female victim sustained injuries to her head during the altercation.
Investigators swiftly secured the area and confiscated the knife allegedly used in the commission of the crime. The weapon has been officially booked in as evidence. The 42-year-old male suspect was subsequently identified and taken into custody without further incident.
A Hertzogville police spokesperson confirmed that the suspect is currently facing one formal charge of murder and one count of attempted murder. He is expected to appear before the Hertzogville Magistrate’s Court soon to face these charges.
