Nyanga Mass Shooting: Four Men Killed in Suspected Taxi-Related Attack on Old Klipfontein Road

WESTERN CAPE – Authorities have launched a formal investigation following a Nyanga mass shooting that claimed the lives of four adult men on Saturday night. The victims were ambushed by unknown gunmen while stopped to repair a vehicle on Old Klipfontein Road.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred at approximately 21:55 on 01 August 2026. The four men were travelling in a Toyota Avanza when they were forced to pull over to address a flat tyre. While they were attending to the vehicle, unidentified assailants opened fire on the group.

Medical personnel who responded to the emergency call declared all four victims deceased at the scene due to fatal gunshot wounds. The suspects fled the area immediately after the attack and remain at large, with no arrests having been made to date.

A spokesperson for the Serious Violent Crime Unit confirmed that four counts of murder have been officially registered and are under active investigation. While detectives are examining all available evidence, preliminary indications suggest the motive may be taxi-related. Authorities emphasized that this potential link will form a central part of the ongoing police investigation as they work to identify and apprehend the suspects.

The Serious Violent Crime Unit continues to appeal to the public for any information that could assist in the investigation.
