NALEDI, Soweto — Two male suspects are in custody after the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) discovered a hijacked vehicle and human organs during a raid in Naledi, Soweto. The shocking discovery was made by the JMPD Tactical Response Unit while officers were conducting routine crime prevention duties in the area.
According to a JMPD spokesperson, the operation began after authorities received a tip-off regarding a vehicle being stripped at a residence on Nape Street. Upon arriving at the specified address, officers noticed the property’s gate was open. They proceeded into the yard and, after receiving no response to their knocks at the half-open front door, entered the premises.
Inside the house, officers encountered the first male suspect. After identifying themselves and stating their purpose, officers were told by the suspect that a white Volkswagen Caddy parked in the garage belonged to the homeowner. However, a thorough inspection and verification check revealed that the vehicle actually belonged to the National Department of Health. The VW Caddy had been positively flagged as a hijacked vehicle and was already in the process of being stripped.
Officers subsequently expanded their search of the property, leading to the discovery of a second male suspect hiding in the backyard. Both men were immediately arrested on the scene.
The situation took a highly disturbing turn during a further search of the yard. Police uncovered two buckets allegedly containing human organs, which were identified as hearts and lungs.
The two suspects have been processed and detained at the Naledi South African Police Service (SAPS) station. They are formally facing charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle and possession of human organs.
The JMPD spokesperson commended the outstanding and vigilant work of the officers who executed the operation. Joint investigations are now ongoing between the SAPS and the JMPD. Authorities are working urgently to establish the exact origin of the human organs and to locate the actual homeowner of the Nape Street residence.
