Man Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Murder of Six-Year-Old Stepson

The Bloemfontein High Court, sitting in Selosesha, has sentenced 26-year-old Lebohang “Lefty” Keoreng to life imprisonment for the murder of his six-year-old stepson, Ogone Patrick Mpuru.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, 7 January 2025, at approximately 18:30 in Zone 4, Thaba Nchu. According to police reports, Keoreng arrived at the residence of the child’s aunt demanding to see his girlfriend. After being informed that she was not home, Keoreng took the six-year-old child under the pretext of going to look for the mother.

Shortly afterward, neighbors alerted the aunt after observing the child running toward her before collapsing from severe, bleeding injuries. Outraged community members pursued, apprehended, and severely assaulted Keoreng. Officers from the Selosesha police station arrived at the scene, intervened to rescue the suspect from the mob, and transported him to a local hospital for medical attention. Emergency Medical Services also responded, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene. A knife, identified as the murder weapon, was subsequently recovered from Keoreng’s residence.
