Edenvale Arrest: Suspect Charged with Kidnapping and Shooting After E-Hailing Driver Escapes

EDENVALE – An Edenvale arrest has been executed after an e-hailing driver  narrowly escaped a violent ordeal involving kidnapping and the unlawful discharge of a firearm early Sunday morning. Local police detained a 45-year-old male suspect in connection with the incident, who also faces additional charges of defeating the ends of justice.

The sequence of events unfolded at approximately 07:30 on 14 June 2026. The victim had just completed a scheduled trip, dropping off a female passenger at a local residence. Upon finishing the drop-off, he was aggressively confronted by the suspect, who accused the driver of maintaining a romantic relationship with his girlfriend.

Escalating the confrontation, the assailant allegedly forced the motorist into his vehicle and physically prevented him from leaving. During this captivity, the suspect fired a gun directly in the direction of the trapped driver. Fortunately, the victim managed to break free and flee the scene without sustaining any physical injuries.

Shaken but unharmed, the driver immediately navigated to a neighboring police station to lodge a formal complaint. Responding swiftly to the emergency report, the South African Police Service (SAPS) tracked down and apprehended the suspect shortly after the ordeal concluded. Detectives remain active in the area as investigations into the circumstances continue.

The accused is currently in police custody and is scheduled to make his first court appearance at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 June 2026.
