Teboho Lesekele Sentenced to 15 Years’ Imprisonment for Rape

The Sasolburg Regional Court has convicted and sentenced 36-year-old Teboho Lesekele to 15 years’ direct imprisonment for rape. The sentence was handed down on Thursday, 21 May 2026.

The conviction stems from an incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 30 March 2025, at approximately 02:00. The victim, a 31-year-old woman, was at a local pub in Sasolburg when she requested a lift to Zamdela from a male acquaintance.

Lesekele agreed to transport the victim, and the two departed toward Zamdela. While en route, the victim provided directions to her residence. However, the accused became aggressive, disregarded her instructions, and instead drove to his residence in Extension 3, Zamdela.

Upon arrival, Lesekele forcibly removed the victim from his vehicle and dragged her into the house, where he raped her.

The following morning, Monday, 31 March 2025, at approximately 07:00, the accused escorted the victim toward her home. She successfully reached her residence and immediately reported the assault to the Zamdela South African Police Service (SAPS).

The case was investigated by Detective Sergeant Agnes Mankge of the Zamdela Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. Her thorough investigation facilitated the successful prosecution and conviction of the accused.

The 15-year direct imprisonment sentence reflects the court’s finding on the severity of the crime.
