The South African Police Service (SAPS) Trio Task Team arrested a 37-year-old male suspect in possession of three unlicensed firearms in the early hours of 30 May 2026.
The arrest occurred at approximately 00:30 at a residential property on Nondumo Street in the Wells Estate area. Acting on credible intelligence, members of the Trio Task Team had been investigating the individual as a person of interest linked to several serious violent crimes in the Nelson Mandela Bay region.
Upon locating and apprehending the suspect, police conducted a search of the premises and confiscated three unlicensed firearms. Ammunition was also recovered during the operation.
The suspect remains in police custody pending further investigation. He is scheduled to appear in the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court on 01 June 2026 to face charges of illegal possession of three firearms and ammunition.
SAPS confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing and that additional charges related to the suspect’s alleged involvement in violent crimes in the region may be considered as inquiries progress.
