Two Arrested in Northam After Intelligence-Led Operation Recovers R96,700

Northam police arrested two suspects, aged 38 and 49, on Monday, 25 May 2026, following an intelligence-driven operation conducted in coordination with PPS Security Brits. The arrests are linked to a case of theft under false pretences reported in Northam.

Police acted on information received about a suspect posing as a traditional healer who allegedly defrauded a victim of a substantial amount of money. Authorities operationalised the intelligence and traced a white Toyota Corolla believed to have been used in the offence.

The vehicle was intercepted in Brits, North West Province, leading to the arrest of a male and a female suspect. Inside the vehicle, police recovered several bank cards, multiple cellular phones, the complainant’s cellphone, and approximately R18,000 in cash.

Further investigation at a guest house in Brits resulted in the recovery of additional cash from a safe. The total amount seized during the operation was R96,700. All recovered items have been confiscated for further investigation.

The suspects are expected to appear soon in the Northam Magistrate’s Court on charges of theft under false pretences.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the officers for their swift response and commitment to apprehending suspects linked to criminal activities.
