Police have arrested a 48-year-old man for the alleged rape of a 10-year-old girl in Matswale Phase 12, Musina, in the Vhembe District.
The incident occurred on Thursday night, 7 May 2026, at approximately 20:00. According to police reports, the girl was followed to the toilet by her neighbour, who covered her mouth with his hand and raped her. The suspect then threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
The matter came to light on Friday, 8 May 2026, when the victim returned home from school. Her mother noticed unusual behaviour and questioned the child, who then disclosed the attack.
The mother immediately reported the case to the Musina Police Station. The victim was taken to a hospital, where a medical examination confirmed she had been sexually assaulted. All relevant stakeholders were summoned.
The case was transferred to the Musina Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for specialist investigation. FCS members swiftly apprehended the suspect.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 11 May 2026, on a charge of rape.
