Namakwa District Management Welcomes 10-Year Sentence for Sutherland Murder

The Management of the Namakwa District has welcomed the outcome of a recent court case, commending the collaborative efforts of the investigation officer and the Prosecution team in ensuring justice was served.

On Thursday, 20 November 2025, the Regional Court in Sutherland sentenced 27-year-old Dominic “Dompas” Jansen to 10 years’ direct imprisonment for murder. The court suspended two years of the sentence, resulting in an effective eight-year prison term. Additionally, Jansen was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The court heard that on 6 April 2024, Jansen was residing at the home of the victim. While under the influence of alcohol, he engaged in a physical altercation with the victim and subjected him to a severe assault.

Following the assault, Jansen attempted to flee the scene in the victim’s vehicle. However, he overturned the vehicle and was subsequently arrested immediately by police on the scene.

The victim was hospitalised after the brutal assault but sadly succumbed to his injuries eight days later.

The investigating officer, Warrant Officer Klein of the Sutherland Detective Branch, was commended for his meticulous work on the case, which was pivotal in securing the conviction.
