KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a murder investigation following the grim discovery of four people burnt to death inside two vehicles in the Umatata area of Inanda on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
According to authorities, police responded to reports of two burning vehicles. Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered a horrific sight: one victim, burnt beyond recognition, was found inside a Nissan NP200 bakkie.
In a second vehicle, a Toyota Rumion, the bodies of three more individuals were also located, all similarly burnt beyond recognition.
Adding a further dimension to the scene, police also found the carcasses of three cattle next to the Nissan NP200.
While the motive for the killings is currently unknown, police have indicated they suspect the incident could be linked to stock theft.
A process to formally identify the victims is now underway. A search for the suspects responsible is ongoing.
