A 35-year-old male foreign national is in police custody after a targeted operation led to the discovery of drugs with an estimated street value of R13,900 and cash concealed in his vehicle.
The arrest occurred on Wednesday, 24 September 2025, in the Kutlwanong location. According to police reports, members of the Welkom Public Order Police (POP) platoon 5 were conducting crime-combating duties when they stopped a white Volkswagen Polo with a single male occupant in the K9 Section.
“Members requested permission to search the vehicle, and consent was granted by the driver,” a statement read. During the search, officers discovered a stash of drugs and money hidden underneath the rear passenger seat.

95 ziplock bags containing crystal meth.

19 ziplock bags of nyaope.

8 full Mandrax tablets.

Cash amounting to R1,125.

The white Volkswagen Polo used in the alleged offence.
The suspect was immediately placed under arrest. He is facing multiple charges, including possession of drugs, dealing in drugs, and contravention of the Illegal Immigration Act.
The 35-year-old is expected to make his initial appearance before the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court in the coming days.
